Macronutrients are what make up your calories. Fats 9 calories, Proteins 4 calories & Carbohydrates 4 calories, all per 1 gram. Alcohol could be included in this too and pure alcohol contains 7 calories per 1 gram.
Macronutrients are a great way to help you to keep on shocking the body to reach the goals you want.
For instance, if you needed to lose a lot of weight I'd probably advise you to go on a higher protein diet with lower calories.
However if you were at your target weight and you wanted to tone and sculpt I'd up your carbohydrates and up your calories, but this is all personal and would depend on so many varying factors personal to you and your goals.
Understanding macronutrients is not rocket science and it really helps with all weight goals especially if you find that you just can't lose weight through a calorie controlled diet anymore? The body plateaus or starts to resist your efforts as a way of protecting you from 'starving' this is a throwback from caveman times! So if you have this problem you may want to look into counting your macros.
